About the role

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating institutions statewide, which house approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Currently, the Omaha Correctional Center is seeking a self-motivated, results-driven candidate in the position of Corrections Librarian. The Librarian incumbent will model the NDCS values of integrity, respect, compassion, growth, and excellence as we accomplish our mission, "Keep people safe."

Responsibilities

• Manages the library services and operations within a correctional institution including both a recreational library and a legal library.
• Maintains circulation; conducts inter-library loans; procures, processes, and catalogs books and other materials such as periodicals, CDs, DVDs, documents, images, and supplies.
• Provides day-to-day library services in a variety of library operations.
• Supervises and assists inmates and inmate workers.
• Performs related work as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Post high school coursework/training in library science and experience in providing library services and serving library users.
• Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
• Must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program to include CPR, first aid, and self-defense tactics at the Staff Training Academy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Correctional experience.
