About the Role

These positions work under general supervision, providing oversight of the daily operations of a State Correctional Facility's Central Receiving, Laundry, Post Office, Barbershop, or other similarly designated functional area. Responsible for the operation of the assigned area, as well as the performance of inmates and/or employees within it. Ensures compliance with Division of Corrections (DOC) policies, institutional operating procedures, post orders, American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, and all applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations. Serves as a lead worker and may manage acquisition and inventory control of materials, supplies, and equipment for the assigned area.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of assigned functional area (e.g., Central Receiving, Laundry, Post Office, Barbershop).
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of inmates and/or employees.
  • Ensure compliance with DOC policies, institutional procedures, post orders, ACA standards, and federal/state laws.
  • Serve as a lead worker, scheduling, reviewing, and training co-workers in similar roles.
  • Manage acquisition and inventory control of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Training: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the area of assignment, with at least one year in a lead worker or supervisory capacity.
  • Substitution: College coursework from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis (up to four years).
  • All qualifying experience must be documented in the Work History section of the application or résumé, including daily job duties.
  • Verification of college, vocational, or licensure credentials is required (official transcripts, licenses, or certificates must be submitted).

Definitions

  • Lead Worker: Assigns, schedules, and/or reviews the work of co-workers while performing similar tasks; provides ongoing guidance and training.
  • Supervisor: Formally delegated responsibility for planning, assigning, reviewing, and approving the work of two or more full-time or part-time employees. Includes communicating organizational needs, overseeing performance, and managing staff development.

Note: Temporary employees do not qualify for supervisory experience.
