About the Role
The Corrections Control Operator (CCO) performs clerical and office duties related to monitoring inmates within a housing unit in the correctional facility, adhering to Agency policies, Florida Model Jail Standards, and Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission guidelines. This role involves maintaining logs, overseeing daily facility operations, and communicating essential information to deputies via radio or speaker.
Responsibilities
- Monitors closed-circuit monitors to ensure the safety and security of deputies and inmates within a housing area.
- Operates computers to control the ingress and egress of cell doors.
- Maintains manual and electronic logs.
- Assembles, organizes, and summarizes requested information.
- Types correspondence, forms, and other documents.
- Retrieves documentation, reports, and files.
- Uses computer software, office equipment, and printers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
CWRC CCO Additional Duties
- Assists with CTA schedule and calendar management.
- Accepts and enters work release funds into the system and safe.
- Assists outside employees with work release inmate scheduling, locations, funds, and interviews.
- Maintains contact with work squad deputies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Typing speed of 25 WPM accurately.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Basic knowledge of general office equipment.
- Ability to work under various levels of supervision and adhere to laws, agency policies, rules, and regulations.
- Maintains confidentiality and security of files and information.
- Processes, compiles, and disseminates records and public information as directed.
- Adheres to leave, overtime, and attendance policies (e.g., punctuality, regular attendance, and supervisor notification for absences).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Job Controls and Complexities
- Performs independently under general supervision.
- Applies general knowledge of business practices in various situations.
- Handles stable problems or situations without requiring independent decision-making.
- Maintains continuity and operational efficiency through accurate and timely information dissemination.
Physical Environment
- Primarily works in an office environment within the CORR Control Tower.
- Works rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Shifts may vary based on agency needs (e.g., Alpha/Bravo shifts during hurricane deployment).
- Subject to mandatory overtime as needed.
- Ability to climb up to four flights of stairs.
- Must remain calm and professional during high-stress situations.
- Effective communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking English; listening and hearing via radio.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods.
- Normal vision and hearing or accommodations for both.
- Manual dexterity and ability to ambulate independently.
- Frequently grasps, pushes, pulls, bends, squats, lifts, or carries items up to 20 lbs.
- Occasionally reaches above head, kneels, walks, climbs, stoops, stands, or lifts items up to 50 lbs.
