About the role
The Corrections Officer position is an entry-level role within the Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) job family. This classification involves working in secure facilities and requires a flexible work schedule to meet department needs.
Responsibilities
- Assists Post Officers and performs duties away from the post to ensure smooth operations.
- Aids in various tasks such as procuring supplies, delivering paperwork, and responding to assistance calls.
- Supports inmate searches, counts, and maintains cleanliness and security of the building and grounds.
- Monitors inmate movements, conducts security checks, and handles crisis situations.
- Maintains records and logs, and assists with visitor and program management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be a US citizen, 20 years old, and 21 years old for armed assignments.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must qualify with weapon annually and meet Physical Readiness Testing requirements.
- Must obtain a Jailer’s License from TCOLE within one year of employment.
- Valid drivers' license and ability to obtain a Texas driver's license within 90 days.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and procedures governing custody of persons.
- Skills in operating computer equipment, using detention and law enforcement equipment, and basic conflict resolution.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.

Pay
Starting salary ranges from $58,349.50 year/ $4,862.46 month for Corrections Officer Step 1 to $65,672.88 year/$5,244.70 month for Corrections Officer Sr after successful completion of promotions. Additional details are available at this link.
Schedule
Shift work to include holidays, nights, and weekends.
