Job Duties
- Develop control designs, both hardware and software, and assist in establishing control standards for new designs or modifications to existing equipment.
- Commission, start-up, and troubleshoot new or existing electrical installations.
- Analyze plant processes, design, and implement improvements.
- Prepare system design and specification, including bill of materials, wiring schematics, programming, simulation, testing, installation, start-up, debugging, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems.
- Support the development of optimum assembly procedures and systems for new product launches and automation upgrades.
- Troubleshoot and adjust PLC and HMI programs; assist with hardware and process issues.
- Aid in the assembly, programming, and installation of equipment as necessary.
- Provide training to internal personnel as necessary.
Working Conditions
- The position is designated as safety-sensitive and requires direct work with manufacturing machinery and equipment.
- Exposure to noise and machinery, and varying temperatures typical of manufacturing operations.
- Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in production areas in accordance with safety policies.
- Manual dexterity for operating office equipment and hand tools.
- Must be able to bend at the waist and knees, walk, and stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to stoop, crawl under or over, and frequently climb (stairs).
- Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds when necessary.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be flexible and able to change schedule and work hours to meet the organization's needs, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to travel frequently by land and air, including international travel.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, electrical, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
- Minimum five years of hands-on controls, automation, and electrical troubleshooting and start-up experience.
- Experience in PLC programming with Siemens or Allen Bradley PLCs.
- Robot programming (Epson, Fanuc, Yaskawa preferred) to include the resetting of pick/set points.
- Experience working with automation, control, and monitoring systems and software, and highly proficient with AutoCAD/Inventor (or equivalent drafting/modeling software).
- Ability to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical systems and electrical equipment.
- Proficiency with Test Equipment (Multimeters, Ammeters, Data Loggers, Scopes).
- Able to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics, blueprints, technical procedures, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Computer literate and proficient with Windows and MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work with and communicate (verbal and written) effectively within all levels of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide inches and pounds using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to self-motivate, problem-solve, and work in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete written, oral, or diagram instructions.
