Coronary Care Nurse

About the Role

As a Coronary Care - Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) at CHI St Vincent, you will specialize in the care of patients with acute and critical heart conditions. You’ll monitor critically ill and unstable patients following PCI, CHF (new onset or exacerbation), extensive injury, surgery, or life-threatening disease. CCU nurses are highly skilled professionals who play a vital role in patient care, providing continued care and performing procedures as detailed in the care plan.

Responsibilities may include assisting physicians with procedures such as chest tubes or central lines, monitoring hemodynamically unstable patients with Impella, CRRT, or temporary pacemakers, ensuring patient safety during MRI or CT scans, and administering critical medications. This role requires the ability to multitask, anticipate care needs, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

You will clinically care for patients while remaining focused and attentive, continuously monitoring them throughout your shift. You also serve as their advocate, supporting their best interests when they cannot. Your sound judgment during emergencies and rapid responses will be key to your success and advancement.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and implement nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
• Anticipate, identify, and respond to the informational and emotional needs of patients and families.
• Guide and direct healthcare personnel (e.g., Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients.
• Maintain knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (e.g., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, drainage devices, temporary pacemakers, CRRT, SWAN, Impella).
• Utilize safeguards such as IV pump drug libraries and monitor alarms as necessary.
• Initiate emergency support measures (e.g., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patients from injury).
• Assist with patient care duties/tasks (e.g., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene).

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; upon hire.
• Registered Nurse license in good standing, State of Arkansas or compact state license required prior to start date.
• 12 months of acute care experience (new graduates or nurses who have never worked in an acute care setting are hired through our residency training program).
• Previous Cardiac and/or ICU experience strongly preferred.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) within 30 days of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 12 months of hire.

Pay

$33.25 - $44.89 per hour.
