Core Laboratory Supervisor

About the Role

This position assumes responsibility for operation, technical, and personnel management related duties for an assigned Laboratory section. Responsibilities include solving day-to-day lab operational problems, notifying the Lab Manager/Physician Supervisor as appropriate, and maintaining a patient/client-focused section compliant with accrediting and regulatory agency standards. The role oversees training of all personnel in the section, performs technical work as necessary, and ensures compliance with company and laboratory policies and practices. Confidentiality of patient and personnel-related information is maintained at all times, with a high degree of professionalism, sound judgment, reliability, initiative, flexibility, and ethics.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates daily operations of the assigned laboratory section.
• Supervises, trains, and develops department staff.
• Oversees performance improvement and quality control programs.
• Ensures fiscal responsibility.
• Participates in PALM and department projects.
• Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements and ensures compliance.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and personnel-related information.
• Exhibits professionalism, sound judgment, and high ethical standards.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory science, or clinical laboratory science (required).
• Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical/biological science (preferred).
• 4 years of training and experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty under a qualified Medical Director.
• Experience working in a controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, bloodborne pathogens, etc.
• Current state license in the state of practice (if applicable).
• ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist generalist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Medical Technologist generalist. Incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004, must complete ASCP's Certification Maintenance Program.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands; manual dexterity.
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
• Ability to travel throughout and between facilities.
• Flexible work schedule, including working more than 8 hours a day or on weekends.
• No routine exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue, but potential occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste.
