About the role

This position will assist the corporate Safety Manager in all aspects of implementing and sustaining a strong safety culture in which safety is the number one value. Daily work to minimize the risk of job-related injuries will be crucial to the team’s success. This position requires leading with a safety-first mindset.

This is an 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday, in our state-of-the-art, climate-controlled facility. To effectively perform duties, this position may require overtime and a flexible schedule beyond the normal workday.

Responsibilities

• Assist in overseeing the success of Morris Packaging’s Safety Program.
• Ensure the safety of all Morris Packaging employees.
• Assist in creating and sustaining a safety culture that ensures safety is Morris Packaging’s number one value.
• Identify risks and follow projects through sustainable corrective action.
• Conduct near-miss investigations.
• Assist with safety orientation of new employees.
• Assist with safety training for current employees.
• Perform safety audits of the facility.
• Assist in various meetings.
• Lead the safety committee.
• Lead the medical management program.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of safety experience in manufacturing (strongly preferred) or construction environment.
• Safety-first mindset.
• Leadership qualities.
• Ability to exercise confidentiality.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to identify risks in manufacturing environments.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Basic computer skills.
• Forklift certified (company provided).
• Ability to perform general physical activities necessary to complete tasks.
• Record-keeping skills.
• Detail-oriented.
• Troubleshooting skills.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in both an office environment and on the plant floor. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Visits to the plant floor may expose the employee to vibration, equipment noise, and cleaning solvents, leading to a loud environment.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk and listen, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, sit for extended periods, and lift 20-40 pounds of office supplies.
• Repetitive motion using wrists, hands, and fingers, with the ability to feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Continuous (6 or more hours per day) working at a computer terminal.
• Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking and repetitive hand/wrist movement.
• Frequent (1 to 3 hours per day) standing and walking.
• Good eyesight and normal hearing.
• Ability to move and lift objects up to 40 lbs.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, typically working standard business days and hours. Flexibility is required to attend meetings or important functions that may occur during off-hours and weekends to meet organizational initiatives.

Travel

Position may occasionally travel to support business activities.
