Benton Community School District is located in east central Iowa, near Cedar Rapids. The district covers 330 square miles across 8 communities and currently operates 18 regular bus routes.

About the role

To drive a school bus in Iowa, you'll need a commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements, including passing knowledge tests on safely transporting passengers. An air brake endorsement is required if driving a bus equipped with air brakes. Benton CSD will assist candidates in completing the necessary certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a smooth and efficient transportation system for the District.
• Perform duties with attention to detail regarding children’s safety.
• Complete necessary tasks to keep District vehicles in excellent operating condition.
• Ensure no interruptions to the educational program due to transportation issues.
• Knowledge in the use of emergency equipment on a school bus.

Requirements

• Pass a school bus knowledge test.
• Pass a driving skills test in a school bus.
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Maintain a clean driving record.
• Become trained and certified as a school bus driver.
• Comply with random drug and alcohol testing.
• Pass pre-employment drug screening and record check.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Hold an Iowa School Bus Driver License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements.

Pay

$99.40 per day.
