Copy Editor (Publishing / Media)

Storied progressive political magazine and digital publication seeks a full-time Copy Editor to work primarily on its morning newsletter covering Democrats and progressive groups, along with other editorial newsletters, while supporting web copy editing as needed.

Responsibilities

• Copy edit a daily morning political newsletter and other editorial newsletters
• Support copy editing of the publication's website content as needed
• Build and manage newsletter production and distribution to subscribers
• Maintain a house style guide and design effective systems to update staff on both house and AP style changes
• Perform basic fact-checking across all content

Requirements

• At least seven years of copy editing experience, preferably at a news website or magazine
• Experience with basic fact-checking
• Strong familiarity with AP style
• Comfort learning third-party applications and managing newsletter production workflows
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize assignments and manage a schedule around early-morning deadlines

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pay

$66,000 - $73,000/yr

This position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement with the NewsGuild of New York. Candidates will be required to complete a copy editing test prior to interviews.
