Essential Duties
- Assists in coordinating a safe and efficient transportation system which meets all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities for all eligible students
- Assists in the development, coordination and administration of all phases of pupil transportation in order to ensure compliance with State Department of Education policies, Local Board policies, Local administrative procedures, and State laws and regulations
- Evaluates and modifies unsafe bus stops
- Affords assistance in recruiting, training, and supervising supervisors, assistant supervisors, certified instructors, bus drivers, dispatchers, and shop and office personnel
- Maintains all District-owned equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance
- Affords assistance in administering the transportation budget
- Takes an active role in coordinating transportation policies and procedures with individual schools
- Affords assistance in investigating and evaluating all accidents involving county owned vehicles
- Develops and coordinates implementation of a program of preventive safety
- Affords assistance in solving discipline problems on school buses
- Affords assistance in development and presentation of all safety workshops and safety meetings
- Takes an active role in safety education programs presented at individual schools
- Affords assistance in assuring that department conforms with all State laws and regulations regarding school transportation
- Participates actively in departmental leadership and provides input for ongoing in-services training for supervisory personnel
- Affords assistance in determining student eligibility for bus transportation
- Completes and dispatches appropriate reports; Assists in submitting all reports required by State authorities
- Acts as liaison with parents for complaints and special requests Informs patrons about routes, schedules, and county policies as questions arise
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Logistics, or related field or Equivalent experience (8 years - 2 years of similar work level experience = 1 year of college); A combination of experience and education may be used to meet the Bachelors Degree requirement
- In lieu of degree, Supervisor certification earned through National Association for Pupil Transporation (NAPT) may be considered
Experience Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the transportation field required; Experience in a similar role preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of procedures of transportation operations, safety, organization requirements and governmental regulations dealing with transportation
- Ability to make public presentations
- Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel
- Good decision-making and problem solving skills
- Ability to develop implement, monitor, and evaluate program goals and initiatives
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
