Coordinator of Recreational Sports for Outdoor Recreation

Job Description

Recruit, train, supervise, coach, mentor and evaluate student and other part-time staff (approximately 50 staff on an annual basis).

Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and training sessions for each assigned area including awareness and compliance with all University policies and procedures.

Assist with the development of program training manuals and materials including safety and risk management practices to meet national standards and University policy.

Create and implement a comprehensive student development program.

Communicate job responsibilities and expectations for student employees.

Program Management & Administration

Plan, develop, schedule, and implement assigned programming, including trip logistics, assessing location-specific risk management, prepping equipment, and briefing student staff and participants as needed.

Compile qualitative and quantitative data from post-trip evaluations; provide and maintain reports used in assessment of programmatic quality and goals.

Promote operating policies and procedures for use in assigned programs.

Enforce University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.

Collaborate with other units within RecSports and on campus to develop new and relevant programs.

Promote programs by coordinating with marketing & outreach to advertise programs.

Financial, Administrative, & Other Duties as Assigned

Work in tandem with Assistant Director to develop the operational budgets for assigned programs.

Monitor budgets throughout the year and assist with quarterly reporting.

Maintain proper inventory records.

Serve as an active member on committees, work teams, and other global efforts within the Department of Recreational Sports.

Prepare and manage bi-weekly payroll and wage schedules and reports.

Ensure Risk Management & Safety protocol are utilized appropriately within all assigned responsibilities.

Provide feedback to supervisor regarding the safety and/or condition of programs, equipment, and facilities; conduct daily observations and/or use said equipment and facilities; immediately document and address all safety concerns; and operate a state vehicle as needed.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: Master’s Degree; two years of experience in outdoor recreation; understanding of outdoor recreation operations in a campus recreation setting; effective communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision, to think laterally, to undertake initiatives, to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and to supervise people; instructor trainings, and lift a minimum of 45 pounds. Background in Recreation, Outdoor Leadership, or related field. Wilderness First Responder certification
