COORDINATOR OF NETWORK SERVICES AND CYBERSECURITY

Essential Functions

  • Core Team Leadership: Serves as a core member of the technology department's leadership team. Actively contributes to long-term strategic planning, departmental visioning, policy development, and capital improvement budgets, driving initiatives that align infrastructure capabilities with the district's overall goals.
    • Partners directly with the Educational Technology team to ensure network, device, and security policies support innovative classroom instruction and student engagement.
    • Collaborates with Administrative Technology teams to secure and optimize backend business systems.
  • Team Leadership & Field Supervision: Directly supervises, evaluates, and mentors network engineering staff and building-level technology technicians. Translates complex technical objectives into actionable workflows for field staff, fostering a collaborative, responsive, and service-oriented IT culture that prioritizes outstanding user support.
    • Evaluates and holds assigned staff accountable for performance and professionalism.
    • Interviews and recommends employees and recommends transfers, reassignments, and disciplinary actions.
    • Plans, coordinates, and arranges appropriate training for assigned staff.
  • Future-Ready Mindset: Stays current with technology trends and best practices by reading journals/papers, taking courses, networking with colleagues, and attending workshops.

Infrastructure, Systems, & Operations

  • Infrastructure: Manages the day-to-day operations of the technology infrastructure, cybersecurity controls, technical support, network services, and systems administration teams, including technical support, network management, fiber-optic backbone, data centers, servers, routers, switches, software, and hardware systems maintenance, telecommunications, and teleconferencing.
    • Network Topology: Designs, optimizes, and maintains the district's multi-site wired and wireless network topology.
    • Ensures secure network segmentation (separating instructional, administrative, and IoT/guest traffic), robust firewall configurations, and traffic prioritization for instructional and operational needs.
    • Systems Interoperability & Data Integration: Works with the Director of Technology and the Coordinator of Administrative Technology to create efficient, effective system-integration workflows.
    • Identity & Access Management (IAM): Constructs and manages automated provisioning systems for user account lifecycles (onboarding, modifications, and offboarding) across Active Directory/Google Workspace, ensuring secure, seamless access for students and staff from day one.
    • Unified Communications & Phone Systems: Oversees the administration, licensing, and reliability of the district's VoIP phone systems, ensuring high availability and cost-effective routing.
    • Collaborates with the Coordinator of Emergency Management and Safe Schools to ensure infrastructure is in place for security communication systems.
    • Operational Automation: Identifies opportunities to deploy automation scripts and workflows for repetitive infrastructure tasks, network monitoring, account provisioning, and system patch management to increase efficiency and allow building technicians to focus on higher-value user support.
  • Business Continuity & Capital Planning: Maintains robust disaster recovery, backup operations, and system restoration protocols. Manages hardware/software refresh lifecycles to promote the timely and fiscally responsible replacement of equipment, applications, and infrastructure.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Cybersecurity Defense & Incident Response: Serves as the tactical lead for information security. Conducts regular vulnerability assessments, enforces Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), manages endpoint defense systems, leads response to security incidents (malware, phishing, ransomware), and coordinates district-wide cybersecurity awareness training.
    • AI Governance & Tech Vetting: Establishes technical guardrails, risk assessment rubrics, and procurement standards for generative AI and automated tools used within the district. Ensures vendor transparency regarding data usage, verifying that student and staff interactions remain private and are never used to train public AI models.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensures all technology systems, data management strategies, and vendor integrations comply with relevant educational technology standards, regulations, and laws, including FERPA, COPPA, and CIPA.
    • Coordinates District-wide audits and inspections of facilities to review technical operations and recommend security remediation.
