Coordinator of Elementary Math and Science - Sumter Schools District

About the role

Works to develop and implement curriculum and instruction for grades K-5 that is aligned with the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Mathematics Standards, the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Science Standards, and with the South Carolina Profile of the Graduate. Develops and implements a professional development program that improves student achievement by promoting classroom instruction that encompasses appropriate content, pedagogy, technology, and assessment. Collaborates with members of the instructional staff to improve teaching and learning in Sumter School District. Reports to: Director of Elementary Education.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum, instruction and formative assessment program that aligns with state standards and supports the state adopted High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM).
• Coordinate and provide additional resources where needed for the effective instruction of the South Carolina College and Career Ready standards.
• Assist teachers, coaches and school leaders in organizing and implementing the curriculum for all students.
• Coordinate and implement professional learning of school-level curriculum, materials and textbooks that support educators and build capacity for improving teaching and learning.
• Coordinate and implement professional learning of pedagogy and best practices for teachers to improve teaching and learning in Mathematics and Science classes.
• Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings and professional learning communities to promote collaboration among teachers.
• Coordinate and implement professional development to improve the use of formative assessment and ongoing monitoring with effective feedback to improve learning.
• Assist in the effective implementation of STEM curriculum and instruction.
• Assist with the instructional programming and professional development for instructional coaches, math coaches and math interventionists.
• Support effective use of technology for teaching and learning.
• Provide schools and teachers with guidance for using data to inform instruction.
