Coordinator, Occupational Safety, Emergency Response & Security
About the role
The HSE Coordinator, Occupational Safety, Security, and Emergency Response is responsible for coordinating Occupational Safety, Security and Emergency Response programs at the Geismar Site in Geismar, LA. This role involves interfacing with various stakeholders including Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Plant Leadership, corporate, industry neighbors, and regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
- Champion HSE programs across the site to ensure understanding of benefits and impacts.
- Develop and maintain Occupational Safety, Security and Emergency Response programs in compliance with regulatory and NOVA requirements.
- Lead site Emergency Preparedness and Security programs.
- Lead emergency or crisis response activities.
- Serve as site Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Occupational Safety, Security and Emergency Response matters.
- Represent the site on NOVA strategy teams/Communities of Practice and trade organizations.
- Support the Contractor Management program.
- Provide HSE support for Turnarounds and Projects.
- Develop and implement Health, Safety, Environment, Security and Emergency Response training strategies.
- Support site HSE management systems, RC14001.
- Guide and verify implementation of NOVA programs and procedures.
- Support incident management system and lead root cause analysis where needed.
- Identify complex program issues and lead cross-functional problem-solving.
- Maintain in-depth awareness of functional Federal and State regulatory requirements for Occupational Safety, Security and Emergency Response.
- Determine the implications of regulatory changes for Occupational Safety, Security and Emergency Response and manage required change.
- Coordinate the assurance (audits/inspections) program and facilitate gap analyses in your area of accountability.
- Interact with leadership, operations and other plant personnel to ensure a consistent understanding of Occupational Safety, Security and Emergency Response requirements.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections and for regulatory reporting.
- Identify and implement improvements to business processes, including RC 14001 management system programs to effectively manage and mitigate health and safety risk.
- Rotate on-call with Safety team members.
- Demonstrate the ability to move a team to consensus on difficult issues and effectively deal with uncertainty.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural or Applied Sciences or equivalent, with 8+ years of practical experience or 2 year technical school diploma with 10+ years of related practical experience.
- Professional certification in an applicable field is preferred (e.g., COSS, OHST, CSP or CIH).
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, Occupational Safety, Security and Emergency Response.
- Experience developing and/or managing HSE compliance systems.
- Ability to effectively use “role specific” software and effectively use standard company computer systems and programs (e.g., SAP, etc.).
- Experience in the chemical manufacturing industry is preferred.
- Proficiency in trouble shooting, problem solving, excellent written and oral communication skills.
Qualifications
- Pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC®) through the Transportation Security Administration.

- Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units.
- Callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation.
- The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license.
