About the role
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services supports individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities including 8 behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health Facility, located in Danville, VA.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the emergency and safety program at SVMHI, staying current with accreditation bodies' expectations and partnering with local, state, regional, and federal initiatives.
- Promote and ensure environmental compliance through coordinating the facility's safety, fire safety, and medical equipment maintenance programs.
- Coordinate and integrate all safety and security investigations and inspections to meet The Joint Commission's standards for a safe and secure environment.
- Liaison with outside contract vendors.
- Responsibilities related to the work order system (TMS).
Requirements
- Current OSHA 30 certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
- Current NFPA 80 certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
- Current CHEC certification, or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment.
- On-the-job work experience as a Safety and Emergency Management Coordinator or comparable position/experience.
- Working knowledge in public safety and/or emergency management practices within a governmental and/or health care organization.
- Skill in creating and/or implementing policies & procedures related to public safety and/or emergency management.
- Knowledge of industrial safety and practices.
- Skill in conducting environmental safety inquiries, inspections, investigations, and audits.
Qualifications
- College degree related to emergency or safety areas.
- Work experience with accreditation/certification surveys to include The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, and/or other regulatory bodies.
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission/CMS Standards.
Skills
- Public safety and/or emergency management practices within a governmental and/or health care organization.
- Creating and/or implementing policies & procedures related to public safety and/or emergency management.
- Industrial safety and practices.
- Conducting environmental safety inquiries, inspections, investigations, and audits.
