Responsibilities

The programming team serves as the nucleus of MulanIFF, turning our artistic and curatorial visions into engaging and unique programming for our annual festival and year-round events. As Assistant Programmer, you will help create an impeccable experience for our audience. Reporting to the Artistic Director, your curatorial vision will shape the future of pan-Chinese cinemas.

  • Manage the festival submission process and organize submission materials
  • Liaise with filmmakers, distributors, and international sales to expand programming opportunities
  • Identify outreach opportunities to connect new audiences with emerging filmmakers
  • Identify potential presenting partners for specific films and programmes
  • Write and organize all publicity information and materials related to films and screenings
  • Introduce films to the audience and host Q&As with filmmakers

Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest, knowledge, or academic background in Film/Media Studies or other humanities disciplines such as literature, fine arts, and philosophy
  • A curatorial vision aligned with the direction of MulanIFF
  • Working knowledge of emerging and established filmmakers, and key players in the Asian film industries
  • Demonstrated research and organizational skills
  • Excellent professional communication skills in English and/or Chinese

Schedule

This is a volunteer position with the following time commitments:

  • Minimum 8 hours per week during peak season (March, April, and May)
  • Minimum 5 hours per week during festival season and other times (January, February, June, July, and August to December)
