About the role

Serves as the school-based International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) Coordinator, providing school, community, and system leadership. Works directly with the District IB Office, content area offices, and school administration to support implementation and the instructional goals of an IB World School. This is a full-time, non-teaching position requiring flexible scheduling to accommodate participation in Magnet program and community events outside of regular school hours.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all aspects of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program for the assigned school, provides instructional leadership to faculty and staff, and collaborates with the IB Program Coordinator, school administrators, local and global IB World schools, and other offices.
  • Monitors and observes the implementation of the school improvement plan and makes recommendations; conducts classroom visits and teacher observations.
  • Develops, communicates, and monitors an action plan aligned to IB Standards and Practices that promotes program growth and student success, supporting the vision of the school and school district.
  • Provides leadership to the school community; keeps faculty and administration informed on IB matters, including new and revised IB PYP publications.
  • Facilitates outcome-based collaborative planning, professional development, and meetings for teachers to build capacity; provides regular verbal and written feedback regarding program implementation.
  • Sets and monitors goals, academic progress, and well-being of students; promotes program awareness, facilitates support services, and serves as a mentor for students through parent meetings, school and community information sessions.
  • Collects and maintains data, student records, and portfolios; shares data analysis and provides quarterly written reports.
  • Supports multiple exhibitions and initiatives, ensuring faculty, administration, parents, and students are informed of their significance.
  • Recruits new students through school visits, information sessions, and marketing materials; manages the student application process.
  • Manages the budget for the assigned school and prepares annual budget reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Lead worker duties include training employees, directing work, maintaining records, providing performance feedback, planning work, instructing employees, and performing the same type of work as the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university (required). Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably in an International Baccalaureate designated school.
  • Hold or be eligible for a professional educator certificate/license issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) preferred.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Driver’s License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or state of legal residence; daily access to reliable transportation.

Skills

  • Knowledge of school organization, goals, and objectives with emphasis on curriculum design and instruction.
  • Ability to model effective, research-based instructional strategies and promote a collaborative culture reflective of an IB school.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and lead a team in program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of current trends and research in the field of specialization.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively; excellent personnel management skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with students, staff, and parents; establish and maintain positive collaborative relationships with community and school partners.
  • Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., video/web conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse populations.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 193 days worked per year, 7.5 hours per day.
  • Flexible scheduling required, including participation in events outside of regular school hours.
  • Up to 10% day travel within the county to visit schools.
