Coordinator FMS Labor and Delivery

About the Role

The Coordinator FMS Labor and Delivery is responsible under the supervision of the Unit Director for the supervision of daily activities of the L&D/PP unit and staff to assure quality patient care. This role coordinates staff efforts to meet patient and customer needs, evaluates performance quality, and assists in educational and quality improvement programs. The coordinator also collaborates with the Unit Director on projects to enhance the quality of the Maternity Unit and ensures compliance with internal controls and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, in collaboration with the Unit Director, the daily operation of the Maternity unit.
• Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities related to the Maternity unit, patient needs, and staff needs.
• Gathers data monthly for PRMI projects, QI, PI, monthly statistics, or other quality data assigned by the Unit Director; prepares reports for quarterly submission.
• Assists with documentation of reportable events and occurrence reports.
• Collaborates on the development, implementation, and evaluation of projects to enhance care quality and patient safety.
• Demonstrates knowledge of unit procedures, policies, patient acuity levels, and staffing ratios to coordinate procedures effectively and ensure patient safety.
• Assists in scheduling, ensuring an appropriate mix of experienced and inexperienced staff, and monitors scheduled procedures for even distribution.
• Actively participates in hospital committees and intradepartmental meetings, prepares agendas and minutes, and communicates updates to staff.
• Monitors supplies and equipment orders to ensure availability while staying within budgetary limits.
• Maintains records of departmental control activities, including temperature logs, crash cart checks, narcotics counts, communication logs, staffing sheets, assignment sheets, vacation requests, and forms required for daily operations.
• Assists with coding and billing for clinic patients, verifies ancillary charge reports, and maintains log books.
• Supports the Unit Director in problem resolution related to services provided.
• Compiles monthly statistics from the delivery book and prepares reports for the Unit Director.

Requirements

• High School Graduate / GED.
• Knowledge of general hospital operations.
• Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Proficient in KRONOS payroll system.
• Knowledge of coding and billing (clinic E&M sheets); on-the-job training provided.
• One year of experience in a hospital setting as a unit secretary/coordinator preferred.
