About the role
The Coordinator for the Dental School's Office of Business Services provides financial counseling services to patients and performs varied administrative and highly responsible clerical functions of a sensitive nature, including complex investigative and problem-solving activities.
Responsibilities
- Work with patients to review financials of their treatments, insurance coverage, and ability to obtain a sliding fee scale if needed.
- Troubleshoot complex issues with unpaid or denied insurance claims as well as unpaid invoices for cash-paying patients.
- Perform all functions of a Senior Biller/Cashier, including:
- Manual and electronic billing
- Insurance verification
- Payment posting and reconciliation
- Follow-up on denied claims or claims requiring additional information
- Cashier duties, including accepting payments, posting payments to accounts, navigating payment types, and reconciling cash and payments for daily activity
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in a healthcare billing, credit, and collections environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of third-party billing, including regulations governing the same.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal effectively with a large and diverse population in handling sensitive issues by telephone and in person.
- Ability to structure work independently, maintain detailed records, and demonstrate good judgment.
- High degree of proficiency in clerical functions and ability to exercise tact and discretion in handling sensitive situations.
- Ability to deal effectively with a broad range of individuals, including patients, families, and third-party payers.
- Thorough knowledge of billing policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
Pay
$26.63 per hour (increase to $28.78 per hour after completion of 90-day probationary period).
