Cooling Customer Engineer I

About the role

The Thermal Field Service Technician supports the startup, commissioning, and scheduled or emergency service on data center cooling systems. This role involves providing the necessary training and ongoing development for the technician's progression through the Vertiv Certification program.

Responsibilities

  • Support products and services within the Thermal product family
  • Execute preventative maintenance tasks including coil cleaning, filter changes, fluid samples, and fluid remediation
  • Take unit readings, measure temperatures, voltages, pressures, and controller diagnostics
  • Establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and others as appropriate
  • Past the EPA 608 license within 6 months of hire

Qualifications

  • Experience working with Mechanical and Electrical systems
  • Experience with hand and power tools
  • Familiarity with electrical and electronic test equipment and fundamentals
  • Technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills and understanding of computer logic
  • Basic HVAC understanding (though not required)
  • Elementary fix/repair techniques based on directed supervision
  • Strong mathematical capabilities
  • Ability to work on ladders or at heights and on roofs
  • Must have an EPA 608 license or pass the EPA 608 license exam within 6 months of hire

Physical & Environmental Demands

  • Stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or other components
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Sit, climb or balance
  • Close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Frequent driving (car, van, truck)
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds
  • Exposure to extreme cold (below 32°F) and extreme heat (above 100°F)
  • Noise levels (medium to high, requiring shouting to be heard)
  • Working around moving machinery (forklifts, tractors)
  • Protective equipment required (earplugs, gloves, eyewear, respirator, mask, etc.)
  • Outdoor work (no effective protection from weather)
  • Flexible schedules (weekends, evenings, and holidays)
  • On-call responsibility
  • Valid driver’s license
  • At least 18 years old
