About the role

The Department of Public Safety's mission is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through preparation, prevention, and protection with integrity and honor. The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is committed to the reduction and prevention of juvenile delinquency by effectively intervening, educating, and treating youth in order to strengthen families and increase public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Food Service Supervisor and provide support of the facility’s Child Nutrition Program.
  • Ensure compliance with the Department’s Federal Child Nutrition Program regulations.
  • Provide nutritionally adequate meals meeting the federal Child Nutrition Program meal patterns.
  • Maintain required records, reports, and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Requisition food and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of personal cleanliness and food sanitation.
  • Interpret and follow standard recipes, prescribed menus, and specific oral and written instructions.
  • Check the cost and quality of items received and ensure proper storage.
  • Comply with policies and procedures of the Department.
  • Assume any responsibilities as designated by the Youth Development Center Food Service Supervisor II, facility business officer, facility director, the Child Nutrition Program Administrator, and Child Nutrition Program Administrative Officer.

Requirements

  • Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of methods of preparing different types of foods in large quantities.
  • Knowledge of the temperatures of various foods.
  • General knowledge of the Federal Child Nutrition Program.
  • ServSafe Certification (preferred but not required).

Work Schedule

Work hours for this position are Monday–Sunday. The shifts vary for this position. Candidates must be able to work on-call hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis and be able to work a variable work schedule to meet the needs of juveniles and their families.

Pay

Salary range: $31,200–$46,991. Salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
