About the role
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is hiring a full-time Cook for the Next Steps Day Treatment program, which operates Sunday through Thursday. The Cook will be responsible for preparing, serving, and supervising meal services as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of high-quality food in specified quantities using standardized recipes.
- Keep assigned work area clean and follow all sanitation guidelines.
- Perform all duties following safety guidelines and requirements in accordance with regulatory, licensing, accreditation, and agency standards.
- Maintain cleanliness standards in the cooler, freezer, and overall kitchen areas.
- Maintain inventory of food, equipment, and supplies in the kitchen area.
- Receive, restock, and organize inventory.
- Operate kitchen equipment and appliances in a safe manner.
- Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individuals in a dignified, respectful, honest, and fair manner.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Background check clearance required.
- State Food Safety Manager License - enrolled in class upon hire required; certificate must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Food Sanitation Certificate, or ability to obtain, required.
- State Food Handlers permit within one (1) week of hire required.
- Minimum of two (2) years prior experience in commercial or institutional cooking required.
- Experience interacting with clients and staff required.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions/directions and to work with minimal supervision required.
- Demonstrated ability to operate kitchen equipment and appliances in a safe manner required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications
- Competitive salary based upon relevant education, experience, and licensure. Salary $18.50/Hourly.
