About the role

The Cook position involves planning, preparing, and serving nutritional meals and snacks according to established guidelines and schedules. Responsibilities include ensuring all meals are prepared and served safely and in a presentable manner, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and supervising volunteer assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all Site and Food Service Accreditation Standards.
  • Prepares and cooks food as per the menu, using various cooking methods.
  • Cleans, cooks, and prepares a variety of foods and beverages, ensuring compliance with cooking methods.
  • Serves food and beverages in a presentable manner, prepares snacks, and assists in serving meals after normal hours.
  • Assigns, instructs, and monitors work of Kitchen Assistants, ensuring meals are prepared as planned.
  • Maintains a high degree of cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room, ensuring safety and compliance with health regulations.
  • Assists in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment, supervising cleaning of serving and dining room dishes.
  • Maintains proper inventory of kitchen stock, ordering, receiving, and processing food purchases, and ensuring proper disposal of expired food.
  • Supervises volunteers assisting in preparing and serving meals and cleaning of kitchen equipment.

Requirements

Three years' experience cooking food for large groups, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, is preferred. Safe Food Certification is required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Endurance including climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate cooking equipment and activities.
  • Normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriately.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more.
