About the position
The Cook is responsible for the preparation of all meals, ensuring they are prepared on time, maintaining sanitation, nutrition, and safety, and adhering to all recipes for quality and cost control.
Responsibilities
- Works directly with the Food Service Manager in the daily planning, preparation, and presentation of three (3) balanced meals a day for the entire program.
- Assists in the ordering and storing of food that meets all CDPH and LA County Health Department food preparation standards.
- Follows the monthly rotation menu.
- Maintains a high standard of physical excellence in the foodservice dining room and kitchen.
- Assists in the training and development of students learning the vocation of food service, including cooking, food preparation, and presentation of the meal, dining room aesthetics, food storage procedures, and daily hygiene.
- Attends Community Building day activities.
- Presents all meals on time according to the Community schedule.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A High School diploma or equivalent (GED) or actively working toward HS Diploma or GED.
- One year related culinary experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current state driver's license.
- ServeSafe Certification.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
- Ability to maintain social, ethical, and organizational values and norms; build trust and confidence with the staff and with the students; respect confidentiality.
- Applies high-performance standards to all work-related activities.
