About the role

Cooks at the Gateway Foundation Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in Jacksonville, IL, prepare and cook meals for clients in accordance with established recipes and menus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, season, and cook food for clients following established recipes and menus
  • Complete advance preparation steps using kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Inspect and test food to ensure quality and safety
  • Ensure proper storage of goods, supplies, and leftovers
  • Clean and organize work and serving areas
  • Maintain kitchen equipment
  • Assist in menu planning and training clients assigned to kitchen duty
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Current Illinois Department of Public Health Food Protection Manager Certification
  • 6 months of training in cooking techniques and procedures
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 60 pounds frequently
  • Ability to stand stationary for up to 2 hours at a time regularly, and up to 4 hours frequently
  • Ability to walk or move about for more than 6 hours at a time
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate kitchen implements and utensils
  • Normal or corrected vision to read recipes, instructions, and measure or portion food
  • Color vision and sense of smell to inspect food for spoilage

Pay

Pay Range: $15.00/hr - $18.23/hr (based on experience and credentials). Gateway Foundation conducts annual reviews including merit increases.
