About the Role

The Cook prepares food for distribution to patients, the cafeteria, and catering services in accordance with the organization's Mission and Guiding Behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Obtains appropriate ingredients from storage areas for recipes when necessary.
• Responsible for lifting and carrying medium to heavy food and equipment.
• Plans cooking schedule with supervisor and/or dietitian to ensure food will be ready at specified times.
• Confers with dietitians regarding modified diet preparation and reviews menu and special orders to determine types and quantities of food items to be prepared.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduate or 1-year equivalent experience with commercial production food service.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, and simple multiplication.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Food handlers’ certification within 6 months of hire.
• Relevant work experience in a hospital setting, large institution, or commercial kitchen preferred.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of large-quantity cooking standards and food preparation by recipe preferred.
• Ability to complete assignments under direct supervision and work independently as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and good organization skills.
• Must be compatible with others and work well in a service situation with many different people.
• Clean and neat appearance.
