COOK / Dietary Attendant
The Palmettos of Charleston is seeking a Cook and Dietary Attendant to join our team. This position involves performing various duties associated with the production and service of patient meals.
About the role
The Cook and Dietary Attendant must have a sincere interest in foodservice and enjoy working with geriatric and other healthcare patients. They should have, or be willing to learn, food preparation and simple cooking skills, as well as knowledge of therapeutic and modified diet information. They must also have knowledge of correct sanitation procedures and use these daily. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to follow instructions and speak and understand English.
Responsibilities
- Perform various duties associated with the production and service of patient meals.
- Prepare and serve meals according to planned menus, using proper portions and special diet items.
- Communicate and cooperate with staff, patients, and their families.
- Set up trays for service, sort diet cards or selective menus, and deliver carts to floors as needed.
- Buss tables in the dining room, clean and sanitize table tops, and check trays for accuracy of diets, preferences, and quality before delivery.
- Assist the cook in preparing and serving foods for all diets, including therapeutic diets, as assigned.
- Communicate and cooperate with the staff, patients, and their families.
- Serve trays on the tray line and check trays for accuracy of diets, preferences, and quality before they are delivered.
- Bus tables in the dining room; clean and sanitize table tops.
- Attend in-service and other necessary training.
- Assist the cook in preparing and serving foods for all diets, including therapeutic diets, as assigned.
- Communicate and cooperate with the staff, patients, and their families.

Requirements

- Must be willing to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, must be at work on time and during scheduled shift.
- May be required to have or obtain a Food Handlers Certificate or Sanitation Course, as required by state regulations.
- Must be able to work under supervision.
