About the role
The Cook oversees daily kitchen operations, ensuring food is prepared to specification, served on time, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Balance food preparation and production tasks.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety standards.
- Prepare meals according to established specifications.
- Ensure timely meal service.
Requirements
- Three years of experience in large-scale cooking (non-competitive qualification).
Qualifications
- Preferred: cooking experience in healthcare, senior living, or institutional settings (e.g., hospitals, nursing homes, school cafeterias, or large-volume restaurants).
- Preferred: formal culinary training, a culinary arts certificate, or experience working under a Registered Dietitian or Dietary Manager.

Pay
For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range). Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations, and negotiated union contracts.
