About the role

The Cook-05 position at MWR Cape May Harborview Foods involves preparing and cooking a variety of menu items, operating kitchen equipment, maintaining food inventories, and assisting with bar duties.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and cooks hamburgers, grilled sandwiches, eggs, quick meals, cold sandwiches, and salads.
• Grills or fries steaks, chops, poultry, pancakes, bacon, sausage, etc., ensuring they are cooked properly.
• Prepares and cooks fresh, frozen, or canned vegetables and fruits as directed.
• Cooks desserts, juices, and other items as directed by higher-grade cooks.
• Places cooked food in serving dishes, steam carts, and food trucks.
• Maintains food inventories to prevent spoilage, and ensures proper storage and rotation of food items.
• Ensures food safety and quality control by maintaining proper temperatures during holding, transport, reheating, and serving.
• Cleans and maintains assigned areas, kitchen equipment, and work areas.
• Assists with bar duties such as filling ice bins, replacing empty beer kegs, stocking beer coolers, setting up service bars, and portable bars.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience in food preparation, presentation, and following recipes.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform simple arithmetic.
• Physical ability to frequently lift up to 40 pounds, stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods.
• Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training.

Qualifications

• Minimum: 1 year of experience as a cook in food preparation, presentation, reading and following recipes.
• Preferred: Additional experience as a cook in a grill, snack bar, restaurant, club, or similar food activity.
