Conveyor Mechanic 2

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

To perform all aspects of conveyor maintenance, including preventative maintenance, shop and parts inventories, and the adherence to all OSHA safety regulations.

Major Areas of Accountability

• Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
• Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
• Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
• Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
• Repairs or replaces defective parts.
• Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
• Lubricates and cleans parts.
• Starts devices to test their performance.
• Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, band saw, milling machine, welder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
• Moves heavy weight equipment with the aid of mechanical means such as forklifts, pry bars, and chain falls.
• Carries, lifts, and transports parts to and from work location and maintenance shop by hand or mechanical means.

Qualification Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Minimum of three years conveyor maintenance experience
• Experience in general machine shop practice, welding, maintenance troubleshooting, electrical systems. Hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and walk throughout the facility during required length of the shift.
• Frequently required to bend, stoop, push and pull objects.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• Specific vision abilities include depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to talk and hear.
• Ability to lift up to 70-100 pounds on a continuous basis.
• Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet.
• Employee must regularly climb portable and fixed ladders and stairs and perform tasks at elevations and on elevated platforms.
• Ability to operate forklift, motorized pallet jack or other power equipment as necessary.
• Ability to work with battery acids, paints, lubricants, solvents and cleaners.

Personal Protective Equipment Required

• Protective hand wear required (gloves issued for individual assignment)
• All OSHA required welding protection
