About the role

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Journey Level Mechanic/Maintenance Worker to join our team at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. This position is responsible for installing, performing preventive maintenance on, and repairing electrical and mechanical systems, with a focus on automated baggage conveyors and passenger loading bridges. The role also involves providing lead direction and training to other employees.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems, including automated baggage conveyors and passenger loading bridges.
  • General industrial electrical installation and troubleshooting, including 277/480V 3-phase, 120/208 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
  • Maintain and repair Ground Power Units which provide power to aircraft while docked to the Loading Bridge.
  • Compile lists of equipment, tools, and supplies needed. Track and order parts to maintain inventory.
  • Operate cars, vans, lifts, bucket trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Perform extensive knowledge of other airport systems including electrical, plumbing, generators, emergency systems, aircraft fueling systems, and electrical vehicle chargers.
  • Perform general building maintenance work, including manual labor, incidental to above duties or necessary to keep buildings in working order.
  • Work in close proximity to aircraft while performing repair and maintenance to passenger boarding bridges and associated ground support equipment.
  • Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.

Requirements

High school diploma (or GED equivalent) with three years of related experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Qualifications

  • North Carolina State Electrical License preferred and/or PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) experience and/or Automated electrical/electronic control experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical/mechanical control systems such as PLCs, VFDs, start-stop stations and relay logic controls.
  • Skills to perform journey level work on electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Skills to read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships.
  • Ability to provide direction and train other employees.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain.

Skills

  • Skills to calculate cost estimates and measure items.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, tenants, and the public, and represent the airport in a professional and positive manner.

Pay

$29.71 - $42.7 per hour

Schedule

Standard shift hours apply. Hours subject to change and overtime. Works assigned shift, subject to emergency call back to work during emergencies, urgent situations, special events and inclement weather.
