About the Role
Supervise approximately 2–40 people in the daily production of quality corrugated products, ensuring a safe, productive environment with minimal waste. Cross-train employees in key positions.
Responsibilities
- Maintain quality, efficiencies, and production levels set by management; communicate these standards to staff.
- Report quality concerns to Converting and Plant Superintendent; assist in determining quality guidelines.
- Establish high morale by demonstrating fairness, consistency, and addressing employee concerns while maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintain inventories of sheets, inks, and other converting supplies.
- Coordinate with supervisors and Maintenance Superintendent on repairs or preventive maintenance.
- Keep upper management informed of issues affecting department performance.
- Enforce corrective action procedures and conduct meetings with violating employees.
- Conduct weekly Production/Safety meetings with departmental personnel.
- Communicate with supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
- Improve career skills through seminars, technical courses, and related college courses.
- Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including safety and housekeeping.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervise all employees assigned to the department.
- Train employees; plan, assign, and direct work.
- Appraise performance; reward and discipline employees.
- Resolve conflicts, build teams, and coach employees for improvement.
- Address complaints, resolve problems, and document actions.
- Set an example of superior behavior, attitude, and performance.
Requirements
- Minimum high school diploma or GED.
- Two years of prior supervisory experience.
- Preferred: Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.
Skills
Language Skills
- Able to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Mathematical Skills
- Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
- Able to calculate percentages, measurements, volume, and rates.
- Able to apply concepts of high school math.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or graphic form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities to support efficient operation and training.
- Understanding of cost issues to make daily decisions that reduce overall costs.
- Knowledge of quality standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, DEQ, EEO, wage and hour, environmental, and waste minimization).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
