About the role
As a Production/Converting Leader at Smurfit Westrock, you will oversee the entire production process for specific products. You will plan, organize, and recommend strategies to ensure successful product development according to all specifications. This role involves supervising teams in operations and product development.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe, efficient production with minimum waste
- Maintain established quality standards, machine efficiencies, and production levels
- Communicate standards to staff and provide continuous training, including cross-training for each crew member
- Ensure performance and documentation of quality control checks
- Maintain materials necessary for production duties
- Coordinate with supervision and maintenance on repairs or preventive maintenance, and document with work orders
- Know proper operating procedures for each position in the Converting Department
- Establish high morale among subordinates through fairness, consistency, and addressing employee concerns
- Process all reports completely, accurately, and in a timely manner
- Improve managerial skills by attending approved seminars and technical courses
- Communicate with supervisory personnel to avoid confusion or problems at shift changes
- Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including union contracts, safety programs, and good housekeeping
- Follow Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all machines
- Learn and adhere to local and company requirements, rules, and procedures
- Promptly report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Able to speak, read, comprehend, and write legibly in English
- Able to lift 25-50 lbs. consistently
- Read a tape measure with speed and accuracy
- Read and follow instructions on factory masters
- Have a working telephone number on record with Human Resources and relevant supervisors at all times
- Qualified Converting Operator (prior work experience in the corrugated industry preferred)
- 6 months’ experience as a Converting Operator is preferred
- Supervisory experience as a proven manager/lead of at least 5 people, preferred
