Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the conversion department, including setting work schedules, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring factory cleanliness.
- Develop a team-oriented mindset among assigned personnel to attain department objectives.
- Create and/or review daily production schedules to plan work and personnel assignments, as well as calculate production efficiencies.
- Supervise and direct personnel in performing operations according to sound operating principles and company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of process improvement programs and implementation.
- Lead, plan, and oversee projects to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion and reporting.
- Anticipate and determine causes of delays in shift operations and take appropriate action to meet shipping and production schedules.
- Report promptly to customer service and production planning departments when delays occur, estimate time of delay, and produce reports accordingly.
- Contact engineering and maintenance departments for required repair work and advise production planning accordingly.
- Attend planning meetings to help facilitate production schedules as required.
- Review the quality assurance hold area and authorize rework or scrapping of materials when appropriate; implement root cause analysis to prevent quality issues.
- Study operations where cost standards are not being met, determine causes, and apply corrective measures with appropriate personnel.
- Interview applicants for department jobs and recommend candidates for hiring.
- Conduct orientation of new hires and their safety training on shift with the designated department trainer.
- Apply company employee relations policies in all dealings with employees.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the department and ensure inventory accuracy.
- Exhibit strong personal leadership and communications abilities.
- Conduct probationary reviews of employees with management present.
- Conduct performance reviews of each departmental employee and recommend actions for retaining, transfer, or termination.
- Pass yearly forklift certification testing and notify the manager of any potential safety hazards.
- Perform other tasks and duties as required by management.
