Conversion/Fabrication **2nd Shift**
About the role
The Conversion Operator performs specialized hardware preparation and modification of metal doors and frames to meet customer and engineering specifications. This includes welding, drilling, cutting, and the installation of reinforcements and hardware. The role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively under general supervision.
Responsibilities
- Cut slots, drill holes, countersink and tap as needed for hardware installation
- Operate MIG welder to fabricate reinforcements, grind as required
- Install trim kits, louvers, glazing beads and other accessories
- Resize doors or frames according to specifications
- Use templates, gauges and layout tools to ensure precise modifications
- Repair or rework materials that do not meet specifications
- Fabricate and install custom reinforcements as directed
- Apply fire labels as directed
- Work from drawings, blueprints or sketches
- Cut, fit and apply glazing bead to door frame lites
- Interact with engineering or supervisory staff as needed
- Train or assist in training other employees
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all safety protocols and use required PPE
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Prior experience in conversion or metal fabrication preferred
- Strong knowledge of door and/or frame construction and hardware applications
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
- Proficient in the use of tools and equipment including MIG welder, grinders, power and hand tools (drill, saw, tape measure, caliper, etc.), milling machine, and powered industrial truck
- Good working knowledge of shop math, including measuring and calculating dimensions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Clear and legible handwriting for documentation
- Effective communication and collaboration with coworkers and supervisors
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., approximately 30% of the time
- Ability to walk, stand, bend and perform repetitive tasks for full shifts
- Ability to work shifts up to 12 hours and more than 40 hours per week as scheduled
