About the role

We are hiring Controls Technicians at our manufacturing sites in Hartselle, AL. This position reports to the Maintenance Lead/Supervisor and collaborates with Maintenance and Engineering teams to install, troubleshoot, repair, and modify automated production equipment, industrial robots, and electrical control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to all unplanned downtime or breakdowns on machines.
  • Plan and execute maintenance activities for non-routine problems or issues.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on equipment failures to minimize future production downtime.
  • Design, fabricate, and install mechanical and electronic equipment, and perform program changes.
  • Engage in safety, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in planning, coordination, and performance of shutdown and major maintenance activities.
  • Complete all required training and provide on-the-job training (OJT) to other employees as needed.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain housekeeping of shop and areas where maintenance activities were performed.
  • Wire and repair electric motors, and perform basic wiring repairs according to NEC.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot AC drive systems and PLCs; access and interpret PLC logic using a laptop or other devices with the appropriate communication language.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on plant equipment, including lubrication, repairs, adjustments, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
  • Advise operators and others on operational procedures and safety requirements for working with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Install, start up, and shut down equipment in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Perform lockout/tagout as required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics, or Automation preferred.
  • 3 to 5+ years of hands-on technical experience in an automated manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting motors, drives, electrical circuits, hydraulic systems, power transmission, and robotics.
  • Proficiency with Allen Bradley software (Slice to RS Studio 5000) and Siemens Software (Block logic).
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical diagrams.
  • Experience with CAD software systems for design.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and ability to work in a safety-conscious manner.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work at heights occasionally.
  • Ability to work in environments with cold, heat, noise, dust, fumes, paint, chemicals, and oils.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
