Controls System Technician (7pm-7am/ Night Shift)

About the Role

Troubleshoot and maintain controls components and systems for production and associated utility equipment to ensure highest reliability, proper line performance, and safe operation.

Responsibilities

• Observe all OSHA and company safety rules and use proper safety equipment at all times.
• Notify Supervisor of potential electrical hazards and take immediate corrective action.
• Work with Operations, Process Engineering, Maintenance, and others to modify control systems, including program modifications and wiring changes as needed.
• Collaborate with equipment suppliers to support modifications and installations of new equipment.
• Perform upgrades of obsolete control components including PLCs, HMIs, and Variable Frequency Drives.
• Diagnose chronic control system issues, identify root causes, and determine the best corrective actions.
• Diagnose problems using laptop computers interfaced to PLCs, HMIs, and servo systems, utilizing electrical schematics, meters, oscilloscopes, and other resources.
• Assist Operations, Maintenance, and Process Engineering to meet short and long-term goals.
• Share knowledge and techniques with team members and assist with training of maintenance and new personnel.
• Attend all applicable training seminars provided by the company.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Provide off-hour support on a recurring basis.
• Communicate with the parts department to ensure adequate spares.
• Operate production equipment with assistance.
• Perform other duties as directed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma with Associate’s Degree in electronics or equivalent experience.
• Preferred 1-3 years of industrial experience.
• Personal Computer skills including specific controls programming software and basic email, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
• Fundamental knowledge of electrical theory and principles of operation.
• Solid knowledge of three-phase, single-phase, and DC power.
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA-70E, and standard wiring practices.
• Ability to utilize meters and oscilloscopes to identify electrical problems.
• Advanced knowledge of controller-based hardware and software.
• Standard knowledge of product specifications, quality requirements, production goals, efficiency, and waste.
• Understanding of the impact of downtime and waste on production efficiency.
• Thorough repairs to prevent further downtime.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional sitting with frequent walking/standing during an 8-hour shift.
• Occasional bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching overhead throughout the shift.
• Occasional pushing or pulling with the arms, legs, or body during the shift.
• Frequent lifting or carrying up to 10 pounds with occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Occasional repetitive use of hands.
• Occasional light and firm grasping with hands throughout the shift.
