Controls Specialist
About the role
The Go360 Commissioning Specialist plays a key role in commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex control systems for large industrial and advanced technology facilities, including data center environments. This position coordinates schedules, integrates construction and design activities with control system commissioning, and ensures high-quality delivery of control solutions across multi-discipline capital projects. You will work closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and project stakeholders to implement robust automation, PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions while supporting continuous improvement and reliability of facility operations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate operations technicians' work schedules and develop manpower forecasts to ensure adequate support for commissioning and construction activities.
- Integrate construction and design schedules with control system commissioning activities to maintain alignment across project phases and stakeholders.
- Provide regular reports and updates on schedule adherence, quality metrics, and commissioning progress to project teams and client representatives.
- Conduct system and facility engineering job walk assessments to evaluate readiness, identify issues, and verify installation and commissioning requirements.
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause failure analysis on assigned projects, including Rockwell PLC systems, Ignition HMI, and SCADA platforms.
- Program, configure, and optimize control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and building automation systems, to meet project specifications and performance targets.
- Train suppliers on the owner's commissioning software systems to ensure consistent and correct use of tools and processes.
- Provide and manage system access for suppliers in the owner's commissioning software systems, maintaining proper permissions and security.
- Interface effectively with engineering design team members, construction partners, and client representatives to resolve technical issues and coordinate activities.
- Conduct I/O checkouts and verification of control points to confirm proper wiring, configuration, and system functionality.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, data sheets, and control architecture documents to guide installation and commissioning work.
- Support the design and implementation of complex process systems architecture, including instrumentation, device selection, networking, PLC and I/O architectures, and SCADA integration.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commissioning or construction for instrumentation and control (I&C) or electrical basebuild systems in the advanced technology sector.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with control systems in a data center or similar environment.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including PLC5 and ControlLogix hardware and software.
- Proficiency in control systems programming and configuration, particularly PLC and HMI applications.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, and building automation systems in large industrial or data center environments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, data sheets, and control architecture documentation.
- Experience conducting I/O checkouts and verification of control points.
- Good understanding of Design/Build processes, including engineering and construction workflows.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role based in Abilene, working approximately 50 hours per week. You will operate in large industrial and advanced technology environments, including data centers and facilities with dry and wet mechanical systems, AWN, gas and chemical distribution, HVAC, and clean room environmental controls. The work involves close collaboration with engineering teams, construction partners, and system integrators, using modern control system technologies such as Rockwell Automation PLCs, ControlLogix, PLC5, Ignition HMI, SCADA, BMS platforms, and related commissioning software. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, offering exposure to complex, multi-discipline capital projects and opportunities to grow within a high-performing control system integration practice. Per diem support is available for onsite work in Abilene.
Pay
$40.00 - $55.00/hr.

This is a Contract position based out of Abilene, TX. This is a fully onsite position.
