Controls Service Technician
About the role
In this unique role blending HVAC and Controls knowledge, you will start and commission new systems, diagnose, and repair environmental-control systems. You will serve as the direct customer contact, ensuring customer satisfaction by identifying, diagnosing, and repairing equipment and systems at the customer’s location.
You will coordinate with team leaders and customers to understand requirements for on-site installation and repairs, keep current on Trane products, enforce safety standards, and maintain flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Responsibilities
- Start and commission new HVAC and controls systems.
- Diagnose and repair environmental-control systems using knowledge of electronics, direct digital control, airflow, refrigeration theory, and mechanical techniques.
- Serve as the direct customer contact for servicing products and equipment.
- Coordinate with team leaders and customers to forecast issues, gather materials, and synchronize on-site work.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Trane products related to installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair of direct digital control systems.
- Enforce safety standards and maintain security and accountability of company-issued assets.
- Display flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and occasional overnight stays as business needs require.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical school or formal training preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in HVAC/Controls.
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software and proficiency with handheld devices (e.g., Smartphone, iPad).
- Valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations (e.g., DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions/preventable collisions in the previous 3 years).
- Previous experience with DDC controls systems preferred.
Environmental and Physical Requirements
- Must safely and legally operate a vehicle using a seat belt.
- Must wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harnesses, and safety boots.
- Must twist the trunk of your body 90 degrees in each direction.
- Must squat and touch the floor with both hands.
- Must reach hands over your head.
- Must stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods, routinely up to 4 hours.
- Highly physical role requiring regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 lbs.
- Must safely use a ladder with a 375 lb. total weight limit while carrying equipment of 50 lbs. or less.
- Must maneuver confined access areas as small as 30” vertical x 45” horizontal.
- Must routinely access rooftops with extension/fixed ladders at heights of 15’ to 20’, and occasionally up to 50 feet or more.
- Exposure to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, risk of electrical shock, noisy operating equipment, and other environmental conditions.
Pay
Hourly base pay range: $21.89 - $40.34. Compensation is tailored to factors such as seniority, merit, geographic location, education, experience, travel requirements, and union designation. This role is incentive and sales commission ineligible.
