About the role

The Controls Service Technician provides support for Building Automation Systems (BAS), service contracts, monitoring contracts, system upgrades, facility up-fits, and controls-related time and material jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the work schedule as directed by the Resource Coordinator.
  • Install, service, and commission products and systems on assigned projects, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Use hand tools, meters, blueprints, and engineering specifications to install, diagnose, repair, and program Building Automation Systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, site surveys, replacements, and modifications of systems and equipment as needed or requested by customers.
  • Prepare for on-site installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating on-site work.
  • Maintain Building Automation Systems by inspecting Trend Logs, Reports, Time of Day Schedules, Applications, Hardware, and Programming.
  • Communicate job status and document work by completing paperwork for each job and backing up appropriate files to network servers.
  • Serve as a direct customer contact, representing the company professionally.
  • Support HVAC Field Technicians by providing technical assistance and guidance.
  • Provide training and follow-up training at customer sites.
  • Determine parts needed for repairs and assess timeliness of need.
  • Provide technical support to customers.
  • Travel regularly, with occasional overnight travel required.
  • Inspect vehicles for condition and literature supplies.
  • Comply with OSHA, customer, and Brady safety standards.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work overtime or weekends as required.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation throughout the company.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve processes and customer service.
  • Deliver responsive, professional, and diplomatic customer service.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and escalate issues as needed to build long-term relationships.
  • Follow all company safety programs and report non-compliance to your Team Leader.
  • Notify Team Leader or Safety Manager of any unsafe conditions.
  • Use proper PPE equipment at all times when necessary.
  • Report all accidents and injuries to your Team Leader and HR immediately.
  • Complete all monthly safety training topics on time.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in HVAC, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of related field experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, tools, Facility LAN infrastructure, and networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with Trane and various other HVAC products.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle abstract and concrete variables.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks involving occasional sitting; frequent stooping, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and climbing; and constant standing, walking, reaching, and gripping.
  • Material handling demands include lifting from floor level to overhead, with occasional lifting up to 115 lbs., frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., and constant lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk and hear; vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, and in possible extreme weather conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather, electrical shock risk, vibration, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • Ability to work in loud environments.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and prove U.S. employment eligibility.
