Summary
This position will work collaboratively in a cross-discipline technical team of engineers, programmers and maintenance personnel in the development and implementation of automation control systems for all the Zeeland Facility. The position should be skilled in manufacturing automation design, estimates, integration, troubleshooting, engineering, programming, and consulting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and maintain electrical drawings.
- Create and maintain ladder logic.
- Affirms the successful completion of assigned projects, tasks, and activities on time, within budget, while delivering the predefined project performance goals.
- Produces and is accountable for proper and accurate engineering work and record keeping.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials and requisition electrical components.
- Maintains engineering documentation accuracy concerning revisions and design changes.
- Supports continuous electrical design improvement effort.
- Exceptional technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and reasoning ability.
- Understands engineering concepts and electrical systems.
- Self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects or tasks.
- Establish protocols, processes, and standards that create and maintain a safe work environment, product quality, and stable control conditions within the production equipment.
- Work with process/product engineering and maintenance to make necessary changes to equipment for improvements, system upgrades, preventative procedures, product changes, and new product launches.
- Maintain PLC-based control systems for manufacturing automation and instrumentation completing programming changes as necessary.
- Maintain electrical schematics.
- Troubleshooting vision software used within the manufacturing facility.
- Maintain PLC documentation upon receipt from equipment suppliers and an archive of PLC programs and machine controls drawings in an electronic and/or paper format and throughout facility.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve automated equipment including devices, I/O, instruments, and all other components associated with automated processes to meet production and safety goals.
- Improve equipment uptime and contribute to Plant reliability maintenance.
- Ability to diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems.
- Knowledge of electronic and instrumentation principles to determine equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation.
- Contribute to specifications for equipment purchases, which include review and commentary on equipment controls drawings prior to build approval.
- Will assist in estimating control system costs when developing capital project scopes.
Requirements
- Education: Related Certifications are preferred, but not required.
- Experience: At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience, programming experience with an ability to program PLC, HMI and SCADA control systems highly preferred.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer skills will be necessary to log information, process daily work orders, and complete required documentation. Ability to learn and utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively and basic math skills are necessary to perform this job at a satisfactorily level.

Special Skills
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs. occasionally; ability to lift 20 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to stand on hard surfaces for up to 12 hours per day.
- Ability to work in confined and tall spaces, walk, climb, utilize a ladder, operate a lift, bend and stoop.
- Frequent overhead work.
- Temperatures inside the plant may vary from -25 degrees to over 100 degrees; outside work may be also be needed.
