About the Role

The Project Controls Engineer (PCE) reports to the Projects Construction Manager and is responsible for performing a variety of tasks including scheduling, planning, estimating, and cost control tasks that include analysis and reporting. The PCE develops and updates a master schedule and verifies contractor’s monthly schedules, reviewing baseline schedules utilizing Microsoft Project and other scheduling software.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a master schedule with interrelationships between projects.
• Develop and analyze detailed project schedules.
• Develop and use performance trackers for analyzing manpower, equipment, and construction progress.
• Organize, analyze, and present information regarding costs and schedules.
• Prepare estimates and evaluate contractor cost proposals.
• Communicate verbally and in writing clearly, concisely, and effectively with team and other personnel.
• Prepare reports for various purposes.
• Track invoice flow, develop work schedules, monitor costs, and assist in the development of project work breakdown structure and sequencing.
• Collect progress data from site personnel and assemble into progress reports.
• Update master schedule and various project schedules.
• Review contractor baseline schedules and verify contractor’s monthly updated schedules for accuracy and compliance.
• Assist in the review and audit of contractor’s invoices.
• Prepare status reports for progress, schedule, and cost.
• Generate cash flow reports and graphs.
• Prepare what-if analyses based on cost and time impacts.
• Prepare estimates based on available information to establish project budgets.
• Review and evaluate contractor proposals and change order requests.
• Promote safety, health, and environmental awareness across all projects.

Requirements

• 5+ years relevant plant construction experience such as process plants, power plants, etc.
• Knowledge of standards and regulations associated with construction on mine sites.
• Experience in mine process plant projects preferred.
• Degree in Engineering or related discipline (e.g., Mining/Civil, Mechanical, Construction) is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Project software; report writing, cost reporting, and scheduling ability.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Scheduling experience for complex heavy industrial projects is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
• Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts.
• Occasionally required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
• Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
• Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment.
