Controls Engineer, Mission-Critical Infrastructure

About the Role

Riot is building the next generation of digital infrastructure—a growing footprint of liquid‑cooled, mission‑critical data center campuses across Texas backed by a multi‑gigawatt development pipeline. The Controls Engineer will lead commissioning and project delivery on‑site, keep operations teams running day‑to‑day, and help grow the controls organization. This position is based in the Rockdale office, and relocation assistance is available for non‑local candidates.

Responsibilities

• Lead on‑site commissioning and project management across active and upcoming deployments, including close‑out, warranty resolution, and vendor management.
• Own commissioning and vendor management for new deployments, handling projects as large as 200 MW.
• Support monitoring, alarm thresholds, and controls integration for liquid‑cooled (direct‑to‑chip and immersion) infrastructure, working alongside thermal and mechanical teams.
• Lead hands‑on, on‑site troubleshooting and technical support for operations teams.
• Mentor and develop junior controls team members, including those transitioning into controls engineering roles.
• As workload stabilizes, review and eventually co‑own controls standards and governance documentation.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of controls engineering experience with direct data‑center or other mission‑critical infrastructure exposure.
• Hands‑on commissioning and vendor management experience (RFP review, PSA negotiation, and execution).
• Strong working knowledge of EPMS and BMS/SCADA integration and commissioning.
• Familiarity with industrial protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and OPC‑UA.
• Experience owning incident response and change management for live, critical infrastructure.
