About the role

The Platform Engineer is responsible for translating high-level platform design into low-level technical design and implementing, administering, supporting, and patching corresponding platforms. They collaborate with Solution Architects to enable capabilities defined on roadmaps and blueprints, focusing on the reliability and scalability of infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with delivery pods and Architects to improve production deployments, platform operations, and environment stability.
  • Manages the D365 Finance & Operations (F&O) platform on an ongoing basis, performing tasks like monitoring, patching, and support.
  • Controls and monitors industrial machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Conducts regular D365 platform checkups and reports inefficiencies to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintains HMI and SCADA systems, manages networking and firewalling, and enforces safety standards.
  • Supports proactive scanning and vulnerability mitigation of OT system components, working collaboratively with IT operators.
  • Deploys automated processes and equipment into production, adhering to security best practices.
  • Develops and instruments monitoring dashboards to depict platform health and performance.
  • Analyzes existing platform components to identify improvements to software development processes.
  • Configures and maintains physical and virtual network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Implements and configures OT network security products, such as stateful and next-generation firewalls.
  • Supports new initiatives and solutions in packaging plant environments, collaborating with Network Support and other engineering teams.
  • Participates in the creation of documentation and artifacts used to describe deployment, monitoring, and maintenance arrangements.
  • Plans and implements disaster recovery arrangements and conducts related testing of recovery procedures.
  • Delivers against business objectives by effectively managing and partnering with technology vendors.
  • Evaluates and documents all operating systems according to required standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or 6+ years of IT experience with at least 3 years’ in product implementation and hands-on technical activities within enterprise environments.
  • Working knowledge of monitoring/logging and dashboarding tools.
  • Working knowledge of cloud services and Windows operating systems, shell scripting, package management systems, and other utilities.
  • Experience with D365 F&O implementations.
  • Experience with IaaS, PaaS, and Cloud solutions.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks, virtual machines, thin clients, cybersecurity.
  • Understanding of control systems and software development life-cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational qualities; meticulous and detail-oriented.
  • Positive attitude with good interpersonal skills, a team player; able to work cooperatively with others, sharing ideas and collaborating to obtain team goals.
  • Ability to adjust positively to change in direction or assignments; ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.
  • Able to work well under stress and handle crisis situations professionally while engaging all levels of the Costco organization.
  • Good problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Extremely responsive with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Responsible, conscientious, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Scheduling flexibility to meet the needs of the business, including evenings, weekends, and 24x7 on-call responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience with PLCs and HMIs.
  • Experience programming Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA systems.
  • Hands-on experience in designing, developing, implementing, and supporting PLC-based control systems.
  • Training and certification in Cisco Network, Juniper Networks, and/or Arista Network.
  • Training and certification in ICS/OT cyber security.
  • Experience conducting Root Cause Corrective Analysis.
  • Prior experience with routing and switching.
  • General knowledge of wireless networking.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
