About the role

The Controls Engineer position is available at First Quality SE, LLC's facility in Anderson, SC. This role involves specifying, designing, implementing, and maintaining complex controls systems and software programming on production equipment and associated machinery. The engineer also trains and assists Controls Technicians in solving complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Observe OSHA and company safety rules and use proper safety equipment.
  • Identify and correct electrical hazards immediately.
  • Teach others about advanced National Electrical Code understanding.
  • Create and implement safety procedures for installed machines, including Lock-Out / Tag-Out protocols for operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Lead and support internal Project and Process Engineers, Maintenance & Production personnel, OEMs, vendors, and contractors in designing, installing, interfacing, and starting up new equipment and process controls.
  • Assist Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams in meeting daily priorities, coverage, and special projects.
  • Specify DCS’s, PLC’s, HMI’s, servo systems, motors, drives, sensors, vision sensors, and data collection and analysis software, based on company standards.
  • Evaluate electrical equipment from various sources and recommend the best value for use.
  • Schematically design and make complex program modifications in DCS’s, PLC’s logic, HMI’s programs, and servo controller logic to improve individual equipment and overall system performance.
  • Perform high-level troubleshooting, critical thinking, and utilize all internal and external resources to solve electrical, mechanical, or process problems.
  • Lead and assist others in troubleshooting machinery, equipment, components, and programs including PLC’s, HMI’s, servo systems, and Robotics.
  • Ensure the DCS and its components are healthy by performing regular checks and keeping software, backups, Windows, and Anti-Virus updated.
  • Develop policies for repair and upgrade of the DCS and its components.
  • Provide technical and operations training to Controls Technicians, production, warehouse, and other personnel as needed.
  • Share knowledge and techniques with team members and coordinate the training of new personnel.
  • Assist in project planning and forecasting as part of the budgeting process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years industrial controls experience, including advanced knowledge of electrical theory and principles of operation.
  • Experience and working knowledge of DCS and PLC hardware and software: advanced proficiency with PLC, DCS, and HMI programming skills.
  • Experience with system management such as backup/archiving and restoring.
  • Experience with industrial control networks (OT networks) setup and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to lead complex control engineering projects.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in CAD software, AutoCAD.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills to all levels of the organization.

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency with PLC, DCS, and HMI programming skills.
  • Experience with system management such as backup/archiving and restoring.
  • Experience with industrial control networks (OT networks) setup and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to lead complex control engineering projects.
