We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission industrial control systems for automation projects.

About the role

The role focuses on controls design, PLC and HMI programming, panel layouts, I/O integration, robotics integration, and onsite commissioning to deliver reliable, safe, and maintainable automated systems. The ideal candidate will be hands-on with CAD and electrical drawings, experienced with PLCs and HMI development, and comfortable working with commissioning teams and robotic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop control system designs including electrical schematics, panel layouts, and I/O lists using CAD tools.
  • Program, test, and debug PLC logic to meet functional requirements and safety standards.
  • Design and implement HMI screens and operator interfaces for efficient machine operation and diagnostics.
  • Integrate and commission robotic systems and peripherals, coordinating with mechanical and integrator teams.
  • Perform onsite commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of controls systems to ensure reliable operation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, electrical designers, and clients to define requirements, create documentation, and support project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain control system documentation including wiring diagrams, ladder logic comments, BOMs, and functional descriptions.
  • Implement control system best practices for safety, maintainability, and scalability, including PLC program organization and version control.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by analyzing machine performance, recommending control upgrades, and implementing optimizations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial controls engineering.
  • Proven experience in PLC programming (ladder, structured text, function block) and PLC hardware integration.
  • Strong experience with CAD for electrical schematics and panel layout design.
  • Hands-on commissioning and start-up experience in industrial environments.
  • Experience with robotics integration and programming, including safety interlocks and communication with PLCs.
  • Proficiency in HMI programming and operator interface design.
  • Working knowledge of I/O selection, wiring practices, and control panel construction.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose electrical, control, and communication issues onsite.
  • Effective communication skills and experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

  • Experience with Fanuc robot programming.
