Controls Engineer
About the role
The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and support of automation and control systems used in manufacturing and industrial processes. This role focuses on PLC programming, HMI development, system integration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, safety, quality, and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems for manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs using platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, or Mitsubishi.
- Develop and modify Human Machine Interface (HMI) and SCADA applications.
- Configure and support industrial networks including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profinet, and Modbus.
- Lead automation projects from concept through commissioning and startup.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, control panel layouts, I/O lists, and technical documentation.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to improve system performance.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and company procedures.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to productivity, quality, and equipment reliability.
- Coordinate with external vendors, integrators, and contractors during equipment installations and upgrades.
- Provide technical training and support to maintenance personnel and operators.
- Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or manufacturing engineering.
- Experience programming PLCs and developing HMI/SCADA systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical controls, sensors, instrumentation, and motion control systems.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and networking.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation products.
- Knowledge of robotics integration and programming.
- Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, and machine vision systems.
- Project management experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant automation certifications.
- Experience in automotive, food and beverage, packaging, plastics, or heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $120000.00/yr. Enhanced Automation offers health dental and vision insurance, paid time off and vacation time.

This is a fully onsite position in MENOMONEE FALLS, WI.
