Controls & Automation Engineer Specialist I

About the role

As a member of the Controls Rotational Program, the Controls Engineer candidate will complete rotation assignments to gain programming experience, explore principles for successful automation, and understand the production environment. You will work with plant personnel on projects in Quality, Engineering, and Operations while taking a small project from concept to runoff and support. After four rotations, you will be equipped with the technical knowledge and leadership skills to become a successful Controls Engineer at Lear Corporation.

Responsibilities

• Understand and effectively support all plant controls.
• Gain programming experience with the following interfaces: PLC A/B Controllers, Keyence IV sensors, Cognex Vision, and LPS understanding.
• Work with plant personnel on projects in Quality, Engineering, and Operations departments.
• Develop and implement three Vision Solution projects from start to finish.
• Propose three ideas to benefit and grow the Vision team.
• Understand the differences between control schemes on Build-lines and Ship-lines.
• Take a small project (or portion of a larger one) from concept to runoff and support (concept, design, build, debug, runoff, support).
• Attend and contribute to Electrical Team meetings.
• Present three new and evolved technologies beneficial to the team.
• Explore principles for successful automation, including project planning and execution.
• Improve communication and networking skills by working with integrators and individual plants.
• Quickly familiarize with new systems and apply critical thinking and problem-solving techniques for troubleshooting.
• Develop new solutions for automating processes.
• Understand the production environment and required equipment uptime.
• Recognize the responsibilities of the controls team and other teams within the plant.
• Write shift reports and communicate effectively with other teams and shifts.
• Manage stressful situations while providing needed support and solutions.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Controls, Electrical, or Software Engineering.
• Self-starter with a positive attitude, able to work well in a team.
• Creative thinker, results-oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy.
• Knowledgeable of I/O link, AB components, drive control, and Keyence cameras.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
• Understand and communicate applicable safety standards: general industry, machine guarding, robot safety, automated vehicles, and conveyor safety.
• Self-driven and willing to work long hours during installations, if required.
