Controls and Automation Test Engineer

Core Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate control systems for power infrastructure products including PDUs, RPPs, and switchboards
- Develop and configure HMI applications including screen design, alarm management, trending, and operator workflows
- Install, configure, and test power meters, gateways, and controllers, ensuring proper communication and performance
- Select, mount, and wire sensors including current transformers, voltage transducers, temperature probes, and environmental sensors
- Execute full system builds integrating sensors, controllers, and HMIs into complete, functional products
- Build and test hardware and software prototypes for new product development and customer-specific solutions
- Execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to validate system performance
- Develop and maintain control system documentation including wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and test procedures
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure systems are manufacturable and field-ready
- Follow and enforce electrical safety practices including LOTO procedures and arc flash safety standards
Additional Responsibilities
- Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of control system issues from the field
- Contribute to the development of internal standards, lab infrastructure, and testing methodologies
- Participate in safety reviews and identify potential hazards in product designs and test setups
- Partner with engineering and service teams to improve system reliability and performance
- Aid in refining sensor strategies and control system requirements based on real-world usage
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with industrial control systems including controllers and HMIs
- Experience developing HMI applications including screen design, scripting, and alarm configuration
- Working knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, OPC-UA, and SNMP
- Experience configuring and commissioning power metering and monitoring equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring documentation
- Experience executing system-level and component-level testing including FAT and SAT
- Strong understanding of electrical safety practices including LOTO and NFPA 70E
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with data center power infrastructure such as PDUs, UPS systems, or switchgear
- Familiarity with industrial gateway platforms such as Red Lion, Kepware, or Ignition
- Exposure to condition-based monitoring or predictive maintenance systems
- Understanding of OT/ICS security principles or IEC 62443 frameworks
